If you were responsible for fire safety for your organisation and you needed some advice perhaps to carry out a fire risk assessment or to obtain the right fire safety equipment for your premises, where would you go?
There is a large volume of information available on the internet, most of it is reliable and accurate, but how can you be sure it is relevant, could it be from a different country and referring to different legal requirements, sometimes the amount of information available can make it difficult to find what you are looking for and sometimes the information can be confusing.
In order to help guide you through the maze of information RISCAuthority have published their recommendations for obtaining suitable fire safety products and services. But why should you take their word for it? Well RISCAuthority are a research scheme supported by a significant group of UK insurers that conducts research aiming to develope and publicise best practice on the protection of property and business. This particular guidance has also been developed in association with the Fire Protection Association.
In essence fire safety advice should be provided by a competent, experienced person, products should be manufactured to appropriate standards and carry relevant markings and systems (e.g. fire detection and alarm systems) should be installed to recognised standards. RISCAuthority guidance document RC66: Recommendations for sourcing products and services aims to explain the terms and procedures to assist in the acquisition of reliable fire related products and services.
