A practical BCP typically includes when and how to activate the plan, who has authority, key contacts, roles and responsibilities, stakeholder communications, and step-by-step recovery procedures for each critical function. The aim is a concise, plain-English guide your team can use under pressure.
At least annually, and whenever there is a major change such as a new site, new system, organisational restructure or after an incident. Testing can be a table-top exercise or a focused rehearsal of a high-risk scenario.
BCP covers the continuity of the whole organisation. Disaster Recovery focuses on restoring IT systems and data. DR is one element of a complete BCP.
