On 17th September the Welsh Government introduced a standard 20mph speed limit on all restricted roads in Wales. Previously most restricted roads in Wales followed the UK standard speed limit of 30mph. The majority of these roads are located in residential and built-up areas.
The change is intended to:
- Reduce the number of collisions and the severe injuries resulting from them
- Encouraging more cycling and walking
- Improve health and wellbeing
- Make streets safer
- Safeguard the environment
The Welsh Government have stated that they understand that not all roads will be suitable for a change to a 20mph speed limit and have made exceptions for these roads. Further information about affected roads can be found on the GOV.Wales website at https://www.gov.wales/20mph-speed-limits
