British Standards have released a new Code of Practice guide designed to help organisations transition to net zero carbon dioxide emissions.
In support of the government’s net zero strategy to decarbonise all sectors of the economy and meet a 2050 net zero target, the guide, BSI Flex 3030 v1.0:2024-03 Net Zero Transition Plans, focuses on how an organisation should set out, develop, and use their Net Zero Transition Plans.
The guidance follows each stage of developing a plan and includes a visual flowchart. The guide sets out:
- Key terms and definitions linked to net zero
- Net zero transition planning principles
- Net Zero Transition Plan guidance consisting of:
- Management’s commitments to net zero
- Selection of scope and boundaries
- Quantification of greenhouse gas emissions and the baseline
- Targeting and planning greenhouse gas reductions
- Implementation of greenhouse gas reductions
- Measuring the impact of greenhouse gas reductions
- Modifying the Net Zero Transition Plan
- Financing the net zero transition
- Reporting and communication regarding a Net Zero Transition Plan
The Code of Practice is free to download from the British Standards website but does require some basic details to be provided.
