The Office for Produce Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued a high-risk level alert regarding a risk of fire linked to three brands of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) powered industrial lift trucks.
The lift trucks in question were all fitted with the IMPCO C-Series vaporiser, manufactured by EControls BV, and installed as part of the truck’s fuel system. Recent changes in the composition of LPG fuel in parts of the UK have resulted in a risk of fire due to the design of the IMPCO C-Series vaporisers. The design allows the build-up of deposits caused by the LPG fuel, which can lead to sticking valves, resulting in the mixture being too rich to be ignited. Attempted and repeated restarts of the lift can then result in a risk of fire.
Affected trucks include:
- Linde Material Handling – Model Numbers 391, 392, 393, 394, and 396
- STILL – Model Numbers RX70 Series
- Jungheinrich – Model Numbers TFG 316s, TFG 320s, TFG 425s, TFG 430s, and TFG 435s
Full details of the notice and the trucks involved can be found on the Gov.UK website.
While the manufacturers have initiated a program to modify the fuel systems of affected trucks, owners and users of other LPG-powered lift trucks or vehicles fitted with an IMPCO C-Series vaporiser (Part Number MD-54231-001) are recommended to contact their manufacturer or supplier for advice.
