New And Updated Compressed Gas Guidance

The British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA) recently published an updated edition of their Code of Practice covering “The Safe Use of Individual Portable or Mobile Cylinder Gas Supply Equipment”.

 

The code covers safe use of gas supplied in either single cylinders or bundles of cylinders, e.g., oxygen, acetylene, helium, nitrogen, LPG, etc. Topics covered include:

  • Cylinder storage, transportation, and handling
  • Selection, examination, inspection, and maintenance of equipment
  • Preparation for use of equipment
  • Closing down procedures
  • Emergency operating procedures; and
  • Security

 

CP47 The safe use of individual portable or mobile cylinder gas supply equipment. Revision 2: 2024 can be downloaded from the BCGA website.

 

Other new and recently updated guidance that can also be downloaded from the same site include:

  • BCGA CP30 – The safe use of liquid nitrogen dewars. Revision 4: 2024—this covers the storage, maintenance, handling, filling, and use of liquid nitrogen in open dewars and dewars fitted with liquid withdrawal devices operating at less than 0.5 bar.
  • TIS56 – Tanks. Safety valve label requirements. 2024—this provides clarification of the requirements for the application of a safety valve label on tanks.
  • TIS52 – Product limit for pressure receptacles. 2024—this provides an explanation of the new product limits for transportable pressure receptacles that are being imposed and the changes to the definitions affected.
