The Building Regulations 2010 set out a number of requirements that must be met when carrying out building work in England. The requirements cover various factors such as structural safety, fire safety, ventilation, sanitation, protection from falling, collision, and impact, access to and use of buildings, etc.
Guidance on how to comply with these requirements is provided in a number of approved documents that are available on the Gov.UK website.
Concerns have been raised that these documents are overly complex and difficult to use in practice.
It has now been announced that in 2025 the Building Safety Regulator will begin the process of carrying out a thorough review of the guidance with a view to making the guidance easier to understand, regularly updating the guidance to keep up with new technologies and practices, and making it more accessible for users.
Full details about the review.
Building regulation is a devolved matter, and separate guidance applies in different parts of the UK.
