As part of the Scottish Government’s Road Safety Framework to 2030, a National Speed Management Review (NSMR) has been launched seeking feedback from stakeholders and the public on proposed changes to speed limits across Scotland.
The consultation proposes the following major adjustments to speed limits:
- Reducing the national speed limit for single carriageway roads to 50 mph.
- Increasing speed limits for goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes:
- 50 mph on single carriageway roads.
- 60 mph on dual carriageway roads.
These changes are intended to decrease the number and severity of collisions on such roads while also recognising that driver frustrations at slower goods vehicles can also lead to dangerous driving and further casualties.
The consultation runs from 27th November 2024 to 5th March 2025, with the outcome of the consultation due to be shared sometime in Spring 2025. You can view and respond online using the Gov.Scot website.
A number of in-person and online face-to-face sessions are planned to be where people can share their views directly.
Further information on the proposed changes and the reasons behind them can be found on the Government Transport Scotland website.
