The Irish Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has launched an electrical safety on farms video. The video focuses on an individual dairy farmer and the electrical safety measures and checks that he undertakes on a daily basis. A number of topics are highlighted within the video including:
- The importance of checking electrical supply and outputs in yards and buildings.
- Ensuring that electrical work is carried out by a registered electrical contractor.
- Ensuring that electrical installations are maintained properly preventing breakdowns and safety risks.
- Fitting residual current devices (RCDs) on all socket circuits.
- Ensuring that there are no faulty electrical installations preventing the risk of fires.
- Preventing mastitis in dairy cows by properly managing electricity.
While this is aimed at Irish farms the content may be relevant to other nations.
