The Health and Safety Executive in Northern Ireland has launched a new safety awareness campaign called ‘Drive Danger Out’ focusing on reducing the number of injuries and deaths as a result of incidents involving workplace transport.
The campaign is in reaction to the widespread nature of workplace injuries resulting from incidents involving workplace vehicles, with 34 lives lost and 162 serious injuries over a period of 10 years to 2022 in Northern Ireland.
The campaign is supported by a wide range of government and industry bodies and includes television, radio advertising, outdoor advertising, and social media messaging.
HSENI Chief Executive Robert Kidd highlights that many of the incidents that have occurred were the result of poor segregation of vehicles and pedestrians, inadequate driver training, poor visibility from vehicles, a lack of vehicle maintenance, working on unsafe slopes and surfaces, and lighting. The campaign will highlight these issues and push for the importance of undertaking simple checks and having safety precautions in place.
All of the campaign’s resources so far can be found on the HSENI website.
