Following on from the enquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire the Building Safety Act 2022 is introducing a number of significant changes to the Building Safety regime in England.
One of these changes is the introduction of a registration process for building control professionals. The register is due to open in October 2023 and registration will become mandatory from April 2024. Building control professionals will need to be assessed and certified by this date in order to be able to continue working in Building Control across the whole built environment in England.
In order to be approved building control professionals, working for both the private sector and local authorities, will need to have passed an approved independent competence assessment.
The Building Safety Regulator has now announced the first two approved schemes which are provided by the Building Safety Competence Foundation (BSCF) and the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE).
