In a powerful display of solidarity and support, Russel Hatton, PIB Risk Management’s Key Account Manager, alongside Paul Ferguson, PIB Insurance Branch Director for Liverpool, participated in a sponsored sleep-out event with Nugent Care in April. By sacrificing their beds for a single night, they sought to gain insight into the challenges faced by the homeless community while raising funds for Nugent Care, an organisation dedicated to assisting those in need.
Homelessness remains a pressing social issue in Liverpool, and initiatives like these play a crucial role in addressing its complexities. The event proved to be a resounding success, with a staggering £15,000.39 raised. This significant sum will enable Nugent Care to further its mission of providing essential support to vulnerable individuals.
Reflecting on his experience, Russell shared, “It was cold and pretty windy, especially in the early hours. I’d say I managed to get about 4 hours sleep and woke up with a numb shoulder from sleeping on the hard floor. But at least I got to come home and get a hot shower and a change of clothes which homeless people do not get to do.”
Russell’s sentiments underscore the importance of empathy and action in addressing homelessness. While his discomfort during the sleep-out was temporary, the funds raised will have a lasting impact on the lives of those less fortunate.
The success of this fundraising initiative serves as a testament to the generosity and compassion of individuals like Russell and Paul, as well as the community at large. Together, they have demonstrated that even small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in the lives of others.
Indeed, what a brilliant achievement, and what a noble cause to support!
